I'd feel lost without my local library — quiet breastfeeding corners, book reserve messages and kind librarians. Such a timely read to reaffirm slow + steady habits, thanks Jodi.
I know, there really is so much to love about the library. And I often think about all those people who don’t visit or don’t even think to visit. Hence why I want to share the invitation: the library is always open for you!
Thanks Jodi, I am reading your letter after returning home from my morning run in the nature reserve with a girlfriend. And oh the sun, how beautiful it was rising with its warm orange glow. Its my favourite ritual a few times a week. Thank you for your gentle reminder and lessons from your life. A lovely way to start the week. Kate x
Oh I love the idea of sitting down to write before fully awake. I usually use that time to read but I will try writing. I always find poetry to flow most smoothly when I'm very tired (I think you're right - something to do with the way the brain functions when not fully awake), so hopefully an early morning session will be fruitful. Congratulations on your guardian article and sorry to hear it's attracted some negativity. The outspoken few always weigh heavy on a writer's mind don't they? Hoping the joy outweighs the negativity! Thank you for this piece x
I also try to write first thing most mornings! It is mybest writing time & it helps to enter the day after doing something that feels like flow. Even if I never hit flow again the rest of the day, I had that sliver in the morning.
Yes yes to all these things. Morning writing habit is new for me, but I love it so much. I agree it helps that I'm not fully awake yet and so my inner critic is still asleep. Walking always gives me new ideas too.
And how can people be offended by libraries? Nowadays everything can upset people ...

I think you get used to finding a morsel of learning in the outspoken, and that can be quite helpful x
A lovely way of looking at it!
